Two Chiefs make the ‘NFL Top 100’ #40-11

The NFL Top 100 countdown is a list produced by NFL Network which allows players to grade their peers from around the leagues by their athletic skills and impact on the gridiron. Before the show’s airing on Sunday evening, safety Tyrann Mathieu was the only Chief to make the list thus far, coming in as the 58th-best player going into the 2021 season.

Now, two more Chiefs have made the list as the show revealed the top 40-11 players on the countdown.

Coming in at #34, defensive end Chris Jones rises 18 slots from his 52nd-place spot from a year ago. In 2020, Jones was voted to the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season while also making consecutive Super Bowl appearances. Jones started 14 games for Kansas City last year, registering 36 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, 28 QB hits, and 3 tackles for a loss.

In 2021, Jones looks to have possibly his best season yet now that he has returned to his natural position, lining up at defensive end as an edge rusher.

The #34 slot is the highest Jones has ever ranked in the ‘Top 100’ since he entered the league in 2016.

The Kansas City locker room was mentioned once more as the list rounded out the top 20-11 players in 2021.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was voted as the 15th-best player and is, thus far, the second-highest receiver currently on the list behind Buffalo wideout Stefon Diggs (11th). Hill rose seven slots from a season ago and like his teammate, Jones, is also the highest he’s ever been on the Top 100 since entering the league.

In 2020, Hill earned his third First-Team All-Pro award, was voted to the Pro Bowl for the fifth consecutive time and appeared in back-to-back Super Bowls. He also tied his career-high for receptions last year with 87 catches for 1,276 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns.

Heading into the 2021 campaign, Hill is projected to have another monster season especially now with a rehauled o-line that should give Patrick Mahomes all day to sling the football.

Speaking of Patrick Mahomes, he and the best tight end in football, Travis Kelce, will likely help round out the final 10 slots when the top 10 players of 2021 are revealed on August 29. In 2020, Mahomes ranked 4th on the NFL’s Top 100 list and Kelce came in at 14th.
