The Kansas City Chiefs are having a spectacular season so far, but they still have work to do; the historical three-peat campaign is just three wins away.
Kansas City is close to achieving an unprecedented feat. But first, they must take care of business against a vengeful Houston Texans team that lost to the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium just three weeks ago.
On Tuesday, All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie gave reporters some insight on what the Chiefs are doing to prepare for a team they’ve already played during the regular season.
“Being able to retain the information – we just played them – so we know what they’re about, not the play style and stuff,” McDuffie explained. “But it’s the playoffs, so when you come in the playoffs, teams are gonna give you their best, give you some new plays, not just run the same things they were playing; last time we played them, it was the whole three games in 10 days.”
McDuffie got his second interception of the season off Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud in Kansas City’s 27-19 victory last month. On Saturday, the second-year cornerback anticipates improvements and adjustments from Houston for their playoff rematch.
“So I’m sure they had to simplify a little bit. Coming into this, I mean, we know they’re gonna give us their best shot, especially when we beat them last time,” said McDuffie. “[They’ll] come with the chip on the shoulder coming off a good win last week. So we definitely have to be ready for them.”
Houston is in the Divisional round after upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers, 32-12, on Wildcard weekend last week. On Saturday, they’ll look to beat the Chiefs for the first time since the 2019 season. This weekend will be the third all-time postseason meeting between Kansas City and Houston. The Texans have never beaten the Chiefs in postseason play.
