Travis Kelce breaks franchise records in win over Steelers

On Wednesday afternoon, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made history, rightfully taking his place as the franchise’s greatest pass-catcher.

In Kansas City’s Christmas day victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kelce became the Chiefs franchise leader in career receptions (1,000) and receiving touchdowns (77). Officially moving past Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

Kelce also owns the club’s all-time record for receiving yards (12,151), which was shattered earlier this year. After the game, quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed his excitement for Kelce.

“I was extremely excited. I’ve been trying to get him a touchdown the last few weeks. I wanted to do it at Arrowhead. [But I’m] happy we got it done in the regular season. Now we can just play football,” Mahomes explained.

Over the 12 seasons he has played in Kansas City, Kelce made a name for himself as a reliable security blanket his quarterbacks could trust. While also being a standout citizen within the Kansas City community and beyond.

Mahomes explained to the media that Kelce’s career is just one more reason he deserves this achievement.

“He’s done so much for this organization on and off the field,” Mahomes said. “For him to have the career that he’s had has been special. I know at the end of the day, he wants to win the ring more than anything. [But] it’s awesome he can have that accomplishment.”

The Chiefs drafted Kelce in 2013 at 63rd overall. After spending his rookie campaign on injured reserve, the future HOFer embarked on an NFL record seven-consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (2016-2022). He’s a three-time Super Bowl champion, a nine-time Pro Bowler, and four-time All-Pros.
