TRADE ALERT: Chiefs trade Carlos Hyde to Houston

General manager Brett Veach has made a second trade in the process of whittling the team’s roster down to the league’s mandatory 53-player limit.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs have sent running back Carlos Hyde to the Houston Texans in exchange for guard Martinas Rankin.

The Texans desperately needed help in the running game after losing Lamar Miller to a season-ending injury.

According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, Kansas City will absorb Hyde’s $800k signing bonus and $100k workout bonus. They’ll move on from his $1.4 million base salary, $700k of which was guaranteed.

The team will take on Rankin’s $634k base salary for this season with two more years left on his contract.

Derrick also reports OL Dino Boyd and WR Jody Fortson have been waived.

The NFL deadline now up, the Chiefs are expected to release their 53-man roster very soon. A full list of players waived is also expected to be released as well.
