Three milestones Patrick Mahomes can crush in the playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs are resting after winning three games in the past 11 days. Now, they’re sitting pretty with a franchise-best 15-1 record and have run away with the AFC West and clinched home-field advantage. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is at the forefront of the Chiefs’ quest for a historic three-peat, but did you know there are three career milestones the three-time Super Bowl champ can reach during Kansas City’s postseason run?

Patrick Mahomes is having one of the most successful NFL careers a quarterback could have, with a long list of accolades that includes six consecutive trips to the AFC Championship, three Super Bowl championships, and two league MVPs. Winning his fourth Super Bowl to make history as the first QB to accomplish a three-peat would be the most historic achievement.

However, there are three stats Patrick Mahomes can chase to move up the leaderboard as one of the NFL’s all-time passers in the playoffs:

  • If Mahomes can throw for at least 838 yards passing this postseason, he will move to 3rd all-time behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning for postseason passing yards. Mahomes is currently 8th all-time with 5,135 passing yards.
  • If Mahomes completes five touchdown passes, he will move into 2nd all-time, only behind Tom Brady, for postseason passing touchdowns. He currently has 41 in his playoff career and would move past Brett Favre, Aaron Rogers, and Joe Montana.
  • If Mahomes rushes for at least 71 yards, he will pass Steve Young for the most rushing yards by a QB in NFL postseason history. Mahomes also only needs three rushing touchdowns to tie with Young for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. Right now, Mahomes has 541 yards rushing and five scores.

Mahomes is already one of the most dominant quarterbacks in the league once the playoffs begin. As Chiefs fans have watched over the last six seasons, there’s something about the winter months that brings out that Mahomes magic that’s resulted in three Lombardi trophies coming back to Kansas City.

This season should be no different, as the Kansas City faithful are anxiously waiting for the Chiefs to begin their next playoff run. Seeing what Mahomes does as he continues to climb the NFL’s playoff record boards will be an extra bonus along the way to a possible three-peat.
