Six Potential Left Tackles the Kansas City Chiefs Could Target in Free Agency

Kansas City Chiefs

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for another offseason, one of the key positions that will require attention is left tackle. After another blowout loss in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs once again learned the hard way that protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is crucial for the success of the offense. Below are six potential left tackles the Chiefs could target in free agency to strengthen their line and keep Mahomes safe.

1. Ronnie Stanley (Baltimore Ravens)

Ronnie Stanley, 31, is one of the top left tackles available this off-season. A former first-round pick (6th overall) of the Baltimore Ravens, Stanley has been a rock on their offensive line when healthy. Though injuries have plagued him in recent seasons, Stanley is a proven talent with the ability to lock down the left side. In 2019, Stanley earned an All-Pro selection, showcasing his elite skills. He was also named to his second Pro Bowl following the 2024 season.

For the Chiefs, adding Stanley would provide a seasoned protector for Mahomes. If the Ravens decide to part ways with Stanley, the Chiefs could take advantage of his potential to return to form and provide stability for years to come.

2. Cam Robinson (Minnesota Vikings)

Another strong candidate for the Chiefs is Cam Robinson, 29, who has been a steady presence on the offensive lines of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. Since being drafted in the second round by the Jags in 2017. Robinson has started at left tackle for Jacksonville and helped protect quarterback Trevor Lawrence through his development.

On October 30, 2024, the Jags traded Robinson to the Vikings, where he continued his strong play by protecting Sam Darnold’s blind side, which contributed to Minnesota’s spectacular 14-3 season.

While Robinson isn’t considered one of the league’s elite left tackles, his consistency and experience would make him an appealing option for Kansas City. With a solid all-around game and the ability to contribute immediately, Robinson could be a strong fit on the Chiefs’ line at a more affordable price.

3. Alaric Jackson (Los Angeles Rams)

Alaric Jackson, 26, of the Los Angeles Rams is a promising young option in free agency. Although Jackson is still in the early stages of his career, he has shown potential as a capable left tackle. In 2023, Jackson stepped up as a starter and gained valuable experience in the Rams’ offense. While still developing, his upside could be appealing to a team like the Chiefs, who have experience working with young players and developing their skills.

If the Chiefs target Jackson, they may be able to secure a younger player at a more affordable price than some of the veteran options on the market. His development could pay dividends in the future, making him a long-term solution for Kansas City’s offensive line.

4. Jaylon Moore (San Francisco 49ers)

Jaylon Moore, 27, has been a key backup for the San Francisco 49ers and offers depth at the left tackle position. Moore has shown flashes of strong play when called upon, and while he hasn’t been a full-time starter, he has experience in a high-powered offense. For the Chiefs, adding Moore would provide solid depth at the position, with the potential for growth into a more significant role.

Given the Chiefs’ history of developing talent and their offensive scheme’s ability to support various players, Moore could step in as a reliable option while continuing to develop behind a seasoned group of linemen.

5. Dan Moore Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Dan Moore Jr., 26, has been a reliable starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers and has gained considerable experience in his young career. As a fourth-round pick in 2021, Moore has already made a significant impact on the Steelers’ offensive line. His consistent play at left tackle could provide the Chiefs with a solid option for the future.

Moore would offer stability and durability, which is important for a team that demands high-level protection for Mahomes. He’s still early in his career and could be molded into a long-term solution for the Chiefs.

6. Cornelius Lucas (Washington Commanders)

Finally, Cornelius Lucas, 33, is another veteran option for the Chiefs. Lucas has served as a reliable swing tackle for several years, including the last six seasons with the Washington Commanders. He has experience starting at both tackle positions and would bring versatility to the Chiefs’ line. While Lucas may not be an elite option as a starting left tackle, his depth and ability to step in when needed would provide crucial support for Kansas City.

Adding Lucas could be a cost-effective move to solidify the Chiefs’ offensive line depth while offering experienced leadership.

Conclusion

The Kansas City Chiefs have several viable options to improve their left tackle position in free agency. From established veterans like Ronnie Stanley and Cam Robinson to up-and-coming players like Alaric Jackson and Jaylon Moore, there are many paths for the Chiefs to solidify their offensive line. Whichever direction they choose, improving the protection around Patrick Mahomes will be a key priority to remain contenders for years to come.
