The Kansas City Chiefs have activated wide receiver Marcus Kemp from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday morning. The move was made to fill the void on the team’s depth chart left by Byron Pringle, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury against the Raiders last Sunday night.

Kemp, 25, has special teams experience in Dave Toub’s scheme and may help to return kicks while also being on the back end of the depth chart in case veteran receiver Sammy Watkins is able to return to the starting lineup for the first time since Week 5. However, if Watkins still isn’t ready to go, Kemp could see some playing time on offense against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kemp has just one catch on the 2020 season, an 11-yard reception against the Denver Broncos back in Week 7.

In order to make space for Kemp on the active roster, Kansas City has waived defensive back Tedric Thompson.

Thompson, 25, previously spent time with Seattle before coming to Kansas City in late July and played sparingly for the Chiefs despite being inactive the last two games.
