Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark faces up to three years in prison after prosecutors at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged him with felony possession of an assault weapon on Friday.
Clark, 28, will be due in court next week for a hearing on the matter, according to the Kansas City Star.
Clark has been arrested twice this off-season, both times in L.A., for possession of a firearm. His first offense occurred in March, and the second time happened last month. According to the K.C. Star, Clark’s felony charge is for his arrest from March.
However, he was also arrested on June 20 when a Los Angeles police officer noticed a UZI in an open duffle bag inside Clark’s vehicle after being pulled over for a traffic violation. At the time of his arrest, Clark claimed the automatic rifle belonged to a member of his security team. Clark was then booked into a county jail, only to be released after posting a $35,000 bond.
In March, Clark was riding with another man and was arrested during a routine traffic stop when officers found two loaded weapons inside the vehicle. Clark posted $35,000 for that incident as well.
Regardless if he’s found guilty or not, it’s very likely Clark will receive some sort of discipline for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
“We have been monitoring all developments in the matter which is under review of the personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email early Friday evening.
Clark was previously arrested in 2014 on suspicions of domestic violence at a hotel in Ohio, which led to his removal from Michigan’s football program.
Clark spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks before getting traded to Kansas City, where he helped the Chiefs win a Super Bowl in 2019. In 91 career games, Clark has registered 49 sacks and has been named to the Pro Bowl twice since joining the Chiefs.
