REPORT: Chiefs sign LeSean McCoy to a one-year deal

General Manager Brett Veach made a late-night splash in the waiver wire tonight as Adam Schefter reports running back LeSean McCoy has signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs worth $4 million that includes $3 million in guaranteed money.

After four seasons, McCoy was released from the Buffalo Bills while the team was making their final roster cuts on Saturday.

He reunites with Head Coach Andy Reid from their days in Philadelphia, Reid drafted McCoy in the second round of the 2009 draft.

Shortly after final cuts were made, Brett Veach spoke with the media and hinted the team may have an interest in the 31-year-old running back.

“As a step back, broad-view type of perspective; listen, we play a lot of common opponents and got to see him on tape,” Veach said. “He is still a talented player and does a lot of great things in the passing game. If it is official, like it has been reported, I’m sure that he is a guy that we will take a peek at. We kind of have a rapport with (him).”

Andy Reid said he wanted to implement a ‘running back by committee’ back on August 9th and by adding McCoy to the backfield, he’ll certainly be able to. The team hasn’t announced who they’ll release in order to make room for him on the 53-man roster.

McCoy should fit well with Damien Williams and Darwin Thompson but the move could spell bad news for either Darrel Williams or Tremon Smith.
