Report: Chiefs re-sign QB Matt Moore to one-year deal

He’s BAAACK!

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought back quarterback Matt Moore on a one-year deal, adding another familiar member onto the depth chart per a report from Terez Paylor of Yahoo! Sports.

The move adds more depth into the Chiefs’ quarterback room and with the uncertainty surrounding the National Football League regarding COVID-19 and keeping players safe, having as much depth as possible at various positions is important. Especially in the plausible event, the team was to experience a Coronavirus outbreak at any point during the upcoming season.

Moore, 35, won the hearts of Chiefs fans after he filled in nicely for Patrick Mahomes, who was sidelined due to injury. Moore performed well enough to earn the second-string job, going 1-1 in his starts and completing 59-of-91 passes for 659 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.

Moore will be the fifth member on the Chiefs QB depth chart, joining former XFL quarterback Jordan Ta’amu and undrafted rookie Shea Patterson in addition to Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne.

Since both Ta’amu and Patterson will likely be long term projects competing for a developmental spot on the team roster, the Chiefs will now have a veteran passer they can feel comfortable with, in case Patrick Mahomes or Chad Henne get sidelined for two weeks due to the virus.

After many believed he’d ride off into the sunset, Moore will instead go into 12th season in the NFL for another ride in Kansas City as the Chiefs prepare to defend their Championship title
