Player Spotlight: Patrick Mahomes set another record in Week 1

It seems like every week during the NFL football season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is shattering another record or collecting some accolades. Well, following a spectacular game in Week 1 against Arizona, Mahomes won AFC Player of the Week and broke a rare record most QBs don’t get the chance to.

Mahomes was fantastic in the Chiefs’ season opener, completing over 76 percent of his passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns. Becoming just the second player in Chiefs franchise history – next to Derrick Thomas – to earn eight weekly awards in his career.

Mahomes’ five-score game also set an NFL record as the youngest player to have six career games with at least five touchdown passes. No QB has accomplished the feat in under 107 career games. Yet, Mahomes did it in just 64.

Mahomes’ performance from Week 1 puts him fourth all-time in career games with 5+ touchdown passes. Only three spots under former New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, who leads that category with 11 career games with 5+ touchdown passes.

Kansas City’s franchise QB never census to be genuinely impressive, and he’ll have another chance to collect even more accolades on Thursday night against the L.A. Chargers.
