Player Spotlight: Matt Wright named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Matt Wright got some recognition this week after his game-winning kick against the Los Angeles Chargers propelled his team to a 12-1 record and clinched the club its ninth AFC West championship.

The NFL named Wright the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 14. The four-year vet was 4 of 4 on field goals in Kansas City’s 19-17 win over the Chargers.

Wright’s walk-off field goal was dubbed the ‘doink for the division’ when it smacked into the left upright before bouncing through. Kansas City would’ve suffered its second loss of the season had he missed.

Instead, the Chiefs are enjoying a two-game lead in the AFC conference. Kansas City’s next game will be on December 15 against the Cleveland Browns at noon Arrowhead time.

Wright joined the Chiefs on December 5 and has done an excellent job filling in for the injured Harrison Butker. With four games left in the regular season, the Chiefs will continue to rely on Wright until Butker makes his return.
