Patrick Mahomes nominated for Sportsman of the Year at 2024 BET Awards

Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes has an entire shrine of trophies, accolades, and other achievements he has earned on and off the football field. This summer, he’s in the running for another award after another incredible season from 2023.

The Black Entertainment Television network annually celebrates artists, entertainers, musicians, and athletes across various categories for the inspiration and impact they make in the lives of others. On Tuesday, BET announced Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes has been nominated for the 2024 Sportsman of the Year Award.

Mahomes is being recognized for his 2023 campaign in which he helped a struggling Chiefs offense find their groove just in time for a historic postseason run that ended with him securing his third Lombardi trophy. After defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58, Mahomes was named the game’s MVP.

Kansas City’s championship victory topped off a rollercoaster season that ended with Mahomes completing 67.2% of his passes for 4,183 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.

Mahomes is one of seven other candidates for the award and will be competing against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts from the Philadelphia Eagles, Anthony Edwards, Gervonta Davis, Jalen Brunson, Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, and Stephen Curry.

Mahomes has been in the running for Sportsman of the Year several times before, but this is one accolade that eludes him since he’s never won it before. Hurts won the award last year.
The BET Awards will air live on BET on June 30, 2024, at 7 p.m. CT.
