NFL Off-season: Chiefs sign WR, DB to 2021 roster

The Kansas City Chiefs signed two more players on Wednesday afternoon, adding even more depth to the roster following the 2021 NFL Draft.

As first reported by NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, Kansas City signed former Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Finke on Wednesday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Finke, 25, is a 5-foot-8, 186-pound receiver that has experience in the slot and as a return man. In five seasons with the Fighting Irish, Finke caught 106 passes for 1,251 yards and 8 scores. While as a punt returner, he returned at least 20 punts in each of his last three seasons and averaged 8.2 yards per return.

Last season, Finke joined the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent but is now in Kansas City, where he hopes to catch the eyes of the Chiefs’ coaching staff over the summer. Finke joins a very talented group at wide receiver and will compete with other hopefuls such as Gehrig Dieter, Maurice Ffrench, Jody Fortson, Cornell Powell, and a few others.

Soon after, the Chiefs made another move on Wednesday, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, by signing defensive back Will Parks to a one-contract worth $1.3 million.

While Kansas City addressed many of their other glaring positions, the one area that was left somewhat neglected was the defensive backs room. Now, the Chiefs add a cheap option that should provide depth and compete for a roster spot.

Parks, 26, was a sixth-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos from the University of Arizona in 2016. In four seasons, he registered 149 tackles (108 solo) and 4 interceptions. His career-high for total tackles was set during his sophomore campaign, with 51.

In 2020, he signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, but injuries caused him to miss the first quarter of the season. When he made it onto the field, Parks played sparingly and was waived on December 1, 2020. But was picked back up by Denver the following day.

Now, he’s with the Chiefs, who desperately need the support at the safety position with only four guys on the roster at the position. Parks should also give Kansas City another contributor on Special Teams as he competes for a roster spot over the summer.
