NFL Free Agency: Chiefs sign two on Day 3

NFL free agency is in full swing and plenty of big names have already signed with their new clubs for the 2020 season. On One Arrowhead Drive, the Kansas City Chiefs were quiet over the first two days but have finally put themselves on the board, adding two free agents to the roster.

ESPN’s Adam Teicher reported earlier tonight the Chiefs agreed to terms with veteran offensive lineman Mike Remmers and defensive back Antonio Hamilton.

Remmers, 30, went undrafted out of Oregon State in 2012 and began the first three seasons of his career going from the practice squad to practice squad for five different teams before finally landing in Carolina in October 2014 and winning the starting job at right tackle the following season.

Remmers played with the Panthers for three seasons before leaving via free agency to sign a five-year, $30 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings on March 10, 2017. However, after two decent seasons, the Vikings released him on March 11, 2019.

On May 11, 2019, Remmers signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants and played in 14 games.

Remmers now joins the Chiefs on a one-year deal, where he has the potential to compete for the starting role at left guard or become the team’s new swing tackle and first reserve that can play anywhere on the o-line following the release of Cam Irving and the departure of Stefen Wisniewski.

Kansas City also brought in defensive back Antonio Hamilton, who went undrafted in 2016 out of South Carolina. Hamilton previously spent time with the Raiders and New York Giants, starting just two games in four seasons and recording 38 career tackles.

He likely won’t be very high on the team’s depth chart but will have a chance to compete considering starters Baushad Breeland is still a free agent and Kendall Fuller signed with the Washington Redskins. Hamilton is also a strong special teams contributor and will be a solid addition to Dave Toub’s special team’s coverage unit.
