Melvin Ingram to visit with the Miami Dolphins

Veteran pass rusher Melvin Ingram quickly became a favorite amongst Chiefs fans last season after the team traded with Pittsburgh for his services on November 2, 2021. But now, it appears the 32-year-old free agent is moving on to the next chapter of his career.

NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report Ingram will visit the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday afternoon. This is Ingram’s first interaction with a potential suitor for the 2022 offseason.

Ingram joined the Chiefs in November of last season to help give the team’s struggling pass rush an extra boost. During the second half of the 2021 season, the nine-year veteran’s presence greatly impacted Kansas City’s defensive line, wracking up 15 tackles, 11 pressure, a sack, and five QB hits in nine regular-season games. In the postseason, he gathered five tackles and two sacks.

Ingram spent the first nine seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers to start the 2021 campaign and then getting traded to the Chiefs to finish the year.

Ingram is expected to continue taking his time before committing to another team, as he did last season before signing with Pittsburgh. Of course, Chiefs fans would prefer he return to Kansas City, but considering how deep this year’s draft is with edge-rusher talent, the team could certainly steer towards spending a draft pick at the position.

As the roster sits currently, the Chiefs have the following defensive ends: Frank Clark, Mike Dana, Joshua Kaindoh, Austin Edwards, Malik Herring, and Jonathan Woodard.
