Marcus Kemp placed on IR

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marcus Kemp underwent an MRI on Sunday after hurting his knee against the Steelers the day before. The results from the MRI confirm Kemp tore his ACL and MCL after making a nice catch to convert a third and long during the second quarter in Kansas City’s second preseason game.

Kemp’s 2019 campaign is now officially over and will be placed on injured reserve. He’ll spend the rest of the year rehabbing for the 2020 season.

This is super unfortunate for Kemp, who had an impressive training camp and was having a nice preseason prior to getting injured.

The Chiefs were very impressed with his play on special teams since he first signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

2019 was the first real chance at making the roster as a wide receiver and showed a lot of promise on the offense.

Kemp leaves an empty spot on the active roster so be on the lookout for the Chiefs to make a roster addition. There have been a few reports going around that a deal with offensive lineman Jeff Allen is in the works, though nothing is official yet.

Kemp’s absence leaves room for opportunity for the other young receivers looking to crack the final roster.

Cody Thompson was the team’s leading receiver in Saturday’s game against the Steelers with 7 receptions for 69 yards.

Byron Pringle and Devon Grayson are two more hopefuls who will the opportunity to get more reps in the Chiefs last two preseason games.
