Le’Veon Bell to sign one-year contract with Kansas City

Just two days following his release from the New York Jets, all-pro running back Le’Veon Bell has officially made his decision on where he’ll play next.

It’s been a long and suspenseful wait, but the 28-year-old will join Andy Reid’s offense in Kansas City as another weapon for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Bell reportedly narrowed his potential landing spots to three teams, Kansas City, Buffalo, or Miami, on Thursday morning.

Bell will sign a one-year contract with the Chiefs in hopes of winning his first Super Bowl ring, and with the talent currently on Kansas City’s roster, there’s a high possibility he’ll reach his goal.

The Chiefs are currently 13th in the league in rushing, with rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire taking most of the snaps, and could always improve in that area. Adding Bell gives Kansas City an added punch to their ground game and will provide some veteran leadership for their younger running backs to learn from.

Since the league’s updated COVID-19 process for players going to a different team now takes approximately six days, Bell will be able to suit up with his new teammates as soon as Week 7 against the Denver Broncos.

Bell previously signed a four-year, 52.5 million dollar deal to play in the Big Apple under Adam Gase in 2019. However, it was pretty clear that the Jets were not a good fit for him when he finished last season with just 789 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns, his worst season totals since 2015. He now leaves a winless team behind in favor of a real chance of being apart of something special in Kansas City.
