Kansas City expected to sign FB Michael Burton

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to have a busy off-season in free agency and appear to be adding another new member to the 2021 roster.

According to a report, first made by Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs are signing veteran fullback Michael Burton. Details of the terms of the agreement have not been released as of yet.

Burton, 29, was a former fifth-round draft selection by the Detroit Lions in 2015 and recently spent time with the New Orleans Saints in 2020, playing in 15 games and starting four of them. He also spent time with the Chicago Bears and the Washington Football Team.

In six career seasons, Burton has appeared in 80 games, starting 17, and has run the ball 15 times for 29 rush yards, and has 13 receptions for 81 yards and one receiving touchdown. Thus, safe to say he won’t be an offensive powerhouse.

As matter of fact, Burton was on the field for only 19% of the offensive snaps for New Orleans last season. So, while he’s a veteran player that will at least compete to be Kansas City’s next fullback, it’s unknown if he’ll be the answer the Chiefs are looking for in order to replace Anthony Sherman, who retired earlier this off-season.
