Kansas City Chiefs part ways with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The Kansas City Chiefs and former first-round draft pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire agreed to part ways on Monday afternoon. The team officially announced the decision on their official X account.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire gave a heartfelt goodbye to Chiefs fans before the club’s official announcement.

CEH has spent the entire 2024 season on IR due to PTSD from a self-defense incident that occurred when he and a friend were mugged during his freshman year at Louisiana State University. The trauma from that day was triggered following the shooting at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII parade on February 15.

Edwards-Helaire heroically protected a 13-year-old boy, who was separated from his father. Edwards-Helaire guided the child to safety and was later honored with the Heroism Award by The Uvalde Foundation for Kids. Zack’s parents publicly thanked Edwards-Helaire for ensuring their son’s safety.

CEH did not participate in practice sessions during training camp, nor did he suit up in the preseason, before Kansas City finally placed him on Reserve/Injured.

It’s unknown what the future holds for CEH at this time, but it appears his football career is on hiatus until he gets his mind right.

CEH played four seasons in Kansas City from 2020-2023, playing in 48 games (32 starts) and registering 441 carries for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a receiver, CEH caught 89 passes for 765 yards and 7 touchdowns.
