Kansas City Chiefs hire two new coaches for the 2025 NFL season

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have made two significant coaching hires, strengthening their defensive coaching staff ahead of the 2025 NFL season. On Monday, the team announced the return of Matt House as a senior defensive assistant and the addition of Chris Orr as their new defensive quality control coach. These moves signal the Chiefs’ commitment to enhancing their defense as they look to continue their Super Bowl aspirations.

Matt House Returns to the Chiefs as Senior Defensive Assistant

Matt House is no stranger to the Chiefs’ organization. After serving as the team’s linebackers coach from 2019 to 2021, House will return to a new role as a senior defensive assistant. During his time in Kansas City, House played a pivotal role in developing the team’s linebackers and contributing to their defensive success.

Following his stint with the Chiefs, House spent two years as the defensive coordinator at LSU, where he helped develop one of the top defensive units in college football. Most recently, he served as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ inside linebackers coach. With a wealth of coaching experience from stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, and Buffalo Bills earlier in his career, House’s return to the Chiefs brings a wealth of expertise to the defensive coaching staff.

Chris Orr Joins the Chiefs as Defensive Quality Control Coach

Chris Orr’s addition to the Chiefs’ coaching staff adds another layer of depth to their defense. Orr, a former standout linebacker at Wisconsin, brings both playing experience and coaching know-how to the team. Orr’s playing career included a season with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 before transitioning to a coaching role. In 2021, he joined the University of Wisconsin’s staff as the director of player development, where he worked closely with players, including current Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal, a former Badger.

Now, as the Chiefs’ defensive quality control coach, Orr will focus on helping the team’s defense improve through analysis and strategy development. His diverse background and familiarity with defensive systems will be valuable assets to the Chiefs as they continue to build on their success.

Strengthening the Defensive Staff for Future Success

The Kansas City Chiefs’ decision to bring in Matt House and Chris Orr highlights the team’s commitment to improving their defense for the 2025 NFL season. With a combination of experience and fresh perspectives, both coaches will play key roles in strengthening the defensive unit as the Chiefs aim for another deep playoff run.
