Josh Gordon announces he’s re-signing with Kansas City

Wide receiver Josh Gordon announces he’s coming back to the Chiefs for the upcoming 2022 season.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that the 30-year-old veteran has signed a new contract with Kansas City.

Gordon first joined the Chiefs in 2021 after getting reinstated by the NFL. His first season back in the league wasn’t the comeback the team probably would’ve liked. Gordon appeared in 12 games, starting seven of those contests, but only caught 5 of 14 targets that came his way for a pickup of 32 receiving yards and a score.

In January, the Chiefs waived Gordon and then resigned him to the practice squad. In February leading up to the Super Bowl, the team signed him to a “reserve/future” deal, which means other teams wouldn’t be able to sign him.

The Chiefs obviously anticipate Gordon to return to his Pro Bowl form with a full offseason to get back into football shape, learn Andy Reid’s playbook and gain continuity with Patrick Mahomes and the rest of his Kansas City teammates.

Reid had high praises for Gordon’s work on the practice field during the 2021 regular season, saying his production will come.

Let’s hope all the hard work eventually pays off.
