Injury Updates: Chiefs lose three WRs to injury during practice

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs had their 17th training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph and watched three of their wide receivers go down with injuries.

After practice, head coach Andy Reid confirmed WRs Nikko Remigio, Justyn Ross, and Ihmir Smith-Marrsette had succumbed to injury. Remigio dislocated his shoulder and had it popped back into place before getting carted off the practice field. Ross was also carted away after being injured in – as Reid described – the knee/hamstring/shin area. Finally, Smith-Marsette injured his groin during practice.

Remigio is an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State and has been a surprise so far in camp. The 23-year-old led the Chiefs in receiving last Sunday with four catches for 71 yards and likely boosted his chances of making the final 53-man roster. According to reports, Remigio got injured by landing on his shoulder while catching the ball down the sideline. He spent several minutes lying on the field before being taken to the trainer’s tent and then to the locker rooms on a cart.

Justyn Ross has already dealt with his share of injuries and was ready to put all that behind him after spending last season on injury reserve. Ross is a promising young talent that has the potential to be a lethal weapon in Kansas City’s high-powered offense.

That potential was displayed last weekend when Ross caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Shane Buechele against the Saints. It’s unclear when Ross got injured; reports say he was seen jogging to the trainer’s tent before getting carted off the practice field to the locker rooms.

Luckily, none of the injuries to the three receivers are reported to be serious.

Other Injury Updates

Andy Reid told reporters that cornerback Nic Jones was seeing a specialist after fracturing his fingers in the preseason game over the weekend. Free safety Mike Edwards missed Tuesday’s practice due to some swelling in his ankle.
