Harrison Butker named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker continues to kick his way into NFL records books by making even more history in Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

In a game where almost nothing went the Chiefs way on offense nor defense, Butker was there in the ready to make what would be very crucial kicks in pivotal moments. Connecting on not one, but two 58-yard field goals to help rally Kansas City past an 11-point deficit for the win.

For his stellar performance, Butker was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday. His career-long also tied the franchise record for field goal distance previously set by Nick Lowery, who only connected from 58 yards twice in his career as a Chief.

After Sunday’s game, Butker became just the second player in NFL history to convert multiple attempts from 58 yards or more in a single game. What’s even more impressive was his composure while having to kick the game-winning field goal three consecutive times due to on-field errors nullifying the previous two kicks. He also kicked a 30-yard field goal at the end of regulation that sent the game into OT.

This will be the fourth time Butker has won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors and the first time since Week 9 of last season. He also currently holds the NFL record for most points scored by a player in his first three seasons with 426, and there’s sure to be plenty more opportunities for Butker to kick his way into NFL record books before his career is up.
