The Pro Bowl games are an annual extravaganza where all of the top players in the league compete in a series of position-based competitions, followed by the AFC v. NFC flag football game. Players must rank atop their respective position groups with the most votes from the fans. So far, four members of the Kansas City Chiefs roster are front-runners to make the Pro Bowl in 2025.
Typically, star players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are mentioned in early Pro Bowl voting, but that’s not the case this season. Instead, two offensive linemen, an undrafted rookie, and a special teams player are represented by the two-time defending champs. Those players are:
- Carson Steele (fullback)
- Joe Thuney (left guard)
- Creed Humphrey (center)
- James Winchester (long snapper
Seeing Thuney and Humphrey isn’t surprising, since they are two of the top o-linemen in the National Football League and have done a decent job protecting Mahomes. Winchester isn’t a surprise either since he’s been consistent and reliable as a long snapper.
Carson Steele on the other hand, is a major surprise to see he’s leading all fullbacks in Pro Bowl votes so far because of how much growing pains the undrafted rookie has had so far as he continues to learn and develop. After coming in as a rushing standout at UCLA, Steele’s had his share of fumbles, examples of poor ball carrier vision, and completely missing blocks while in pass protection.
Steele’s had a couple of highlight plays this season but hasn’t had a lot of time with the ball in his hands. So far, Steele has rushed for 158 yards on 48 carries and only 13% of his offensive snaps have been played as a fullback.
While Steele is still an interesting prospect and will continue to get better the more time he spends with the Chiefs. He’s not a Pro Bowl-caliber player right now statistically. But when you look like a member of the Avengers and have a pet alligator, anything can be possible.
