Former Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen will be one of the newest members to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Hall’s 49-member committee gathered virtually to cast its annual vote in January and decided on the former players that will make the Class of 2025.
The PFHOF Class of 2025 was revealed during the NFL Honors Awards ceremony on February 6. The Hall named Jared Allen (2004-07 Kansas City Chiefs, 2008-2013 Minnesota Vikings,
2014-15 Chicago Bears, 2015 Carolina Panthers), Eric Allen (1988-1994 Philadelphia Eagles,
1995-97 New Orleans Saints, 1998-2001 Oakland Raiders), Antonio Gates (2003-2018 San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers), and Sterling Sharpe (1988-1994 Green Bay Packers) will be enshrined on Saturday, August 2.
The Class of 2025 is the smallest class since 2005 and it’s the 19th time in the Hall of Fame’s history that a class has been composed of three or four enshrinees since the first four-person class was chosen in 1970.
Allen entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004. In his rookie season, Allen took over for an injured Vonnie Holliday and never saw the bench again – becoming an everyday starter the following season.
Allen quickly became known around the league for having a very quick first step and was notorious for getting after opposing quarterbacks. In 2005, Allen composed his first 11-sack season. Two years later, he led the league with 15.5 sacks and was named the Kansas City Chiefs Team MVP.
In 2008, the Chiefs traded Allen to the Minnesota Vikings, where he became a legendary sack master for the purple and gold. Allen played six incredible seasons with the Vikings, never finishing a season with less than 11 sacks per year. In 2011, Allen set a career-high by leading the NFL with a 22-sacks season.
In 2014, Allen finished his career with brief stints with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers before officially retiring in 2016.
In total, Allen played 12 seasons in the NFL with four different franchises, starting 181 of 187 games and collecting 648 tackles, 228 QB hits, 136 sacks, 32 forced fumbles, and six interceptions.
