Former Chiefs assistant Britt Reid pleads ‘not guilty’ to February car crash

Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant and son of team head coach Andy Reid, Britt Reid pleaded ‘not guilty on Monday to a drunk driving incident that sent a young girl to the hospital with critical injuries.

The judge of Reid’s hearing will allow him to resume driving with restrictions but modified his bond during his arrangement to allow him to have a type of interlock device installed that will force him to pass a Breathalyzer-type test before his vehicle will start.

No trial date has been set yet. However, Reid’s next hearing will be a pretrial conference scheduled on July 22.

This all began back in February when Reid’s Dodge Ram slammed into a Chevy Impala and Chevy Traverse that were parked on the side of an I-435 entrance ramp near Arrowhead Stadium.

Inside one of the cars that were hit was a 5-year-old girl, Ariel, who was immediately taken to the hospital with a traumatic brain injury.

According to police documents that recorded the incident, a Kansas City police officer reported the smell of alcohol on Reid’s person, and his eyes were red and bloodshot. Reid soon confessed at the scene that he had consumed alcohol and the prescription drug Adderall before operating his Dodge Ram pickup truck.

According to police, Reid was going approximately 84 mph when he slammed into the Chevy Traverse, and his blood-alcohol level was 0.113 two hours after the crash occurred. The legal limit in Missouri is 0.08.

Two months later, in April, Kansas City police arrested Reid with a DWI felony charge but was later released after posting $100,000 bail.

Before the crash, Reid was Kansas City’s assistant linebackers coach. He has since been released and replaced once the team became aware of the situation back in February.
