Five Chiefs make the 2025 Pro Bowl, Mahomes snubbed

The Pro Bowl is an achievement that recognizes a player’s greatness and the impact he has on the field. This year, five members of the Kansas City Chiefs will represent the club – but quarterback Patrick Mahomes isn’t one of them.

The Kansas City Chiefs would rather play in the Super Bowl, but the next best thing is getting voted to compete in the annual Pro Bowl games.

This year, five members from the Chiefs’ roster include star tight end Travis Kelce, defensive tackle Chris Jones, and offensive linemen Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Joe Thuney.

Strangely, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Mahomes got off to a slow start in 2024, throwing eight touchdowns to nine interceptions in his first seven games. But has since turned his season around, throwing 18 scores and only two picks over his last nine games.

Mahomes is listed as the 1st alternative if someone ahead of him makes the Super Bowl. Otherwise, he will not partake in the festivities.

Kelce led all the players in fan votes to be named to his tenth consecutive Pro Bowl. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer caught 94 balls for 823 yards and three touchdowns this season. The 2024 season has been a special one for Kelce, who surpassed Tony Gonzalez as the club’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. This season is Kelce’s seventh consecutive campaign with more than 90 catches, the longest streak of any player in NFL history.

Creed Humphrey got his third-straight Pro Bowl nod on Thursday. He led all centers with 1,112 offensive snaps. Thuney earned his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod for his outstanding play at left guard. But his play at left tackle over the last three weeks is even more notable. Since taking over at left tackle, Thuney hasn’t allowed a single sack.

Right guard Trey Smith is making his first Pro Bowl this season. Smith’s 1,112 offensive snaps rank second among all offensive guards in the league. The veteran also hasn’t allowed a sack all year. Defensive tackle Chris Jones makes his sixth-straight Pro Bowl following a regular season campaign in which he leads the NFL with 74 pressures despite playing in just 15 games.

In addition to those five nominations, eight other Chiefs players were named as alternates for this year’s Pro Bowl games.

  • Cornerback Trent McDuffie (First Alternate)
  • Linebacker Nick Bolton (First Alternate)
  • Quarterback Patrick Mahomes (First Alternate)
  • Fullback Carson Steele (Second Alternate)
  • Defensive End George Karlaftis (Third Alternate)
  • Punter Matt Araiza (Third Alternate)
  • Linebacker Leo Chenal (Fifth Alternate)
  • Kicker Harrison Butker (Fifth Alternate)

All these players have their sights set on the Super Bowl, with a three-peat just three wins away. But it’s still meaningful for all 13 players to be recognized for their efforts this season.
