The culture inside the Kansas City Chiefs organization is one every NFL player would love to experience. That’s what veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is learning since being traded to the Chiefs earlier this season.
Hopkins, a 12-year vet, is having one of the best careers for an NFL wide receiver. The only thing missing is a Super Bowl championship – just three wins away. In a recent interview, Hopkins reflected on his time with the Chiefs since getting traded from Tennessee and described how Kansas City’s locker room differs from any other team he’s played for.
“They’re coming off a championship — two championships — so it feels a lot different from anywhere I’ve been,” Hopkins described.
The Chiefs are on pace to become the best dynasty in NFL history as the defending back-to-back champions aim to be the first to win three consecutive Super Bowls in a row. Kansas City is also 6-0 in the Divisional round of the AFC playoffs and is 5-2 in the AFC Championship since 2018.
Hopkins acknowledged the high expectations the Chiefs have every season and the attention to detail the organization demands on and off the field.
“Everything everybody does here, not just in this facility but outside the facility, is detailed, and that’s how you win championships.”
Back in October, Kansas City acquired Hopkins in exchange for a conditional 5th-round draft pick that could become a 4th-round pick depending on Hopkins’ playing time (60% of offensive snaps). However, since Hopkins played in less than 50% of the snaps, the pick remained a fifth-round pick.
In the regular season, Hopkins caught 41 passes for 437 yards, and four touchdowns in ten games. As the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs kickoff, the Chiefs are expected to get Hopkins more involved in the offense.
During his time with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans, Hopkins has never gone further than the Divisional round in the playoffs.
