Creed Humphrey says Chiefs are ready for the challenge against loaded AFC West

The Kansas City Chiefs have reigned as the kings of the AFC West, winning six consecutive division crowns since 2016. This off-season, all three of the Chiefs’ division foes have done as much as they can to improve each of their respective rosters with one particular in mind: to prevent KC from winning their seventh division championship in as many years.

Chiefs rookie sensation and second-year center Creed Humphrey was on Sirius XM NFL Radio this weekend. During the show, Humphrey was asked to weigh in on the reloaded AFC West the Chiefs will be playing against this season.

“It’s going to be extremely competitive, and we’re excited about it, for sure,” said Humphrey. “Everybody’s added some really good pieces and it’s going to be a blast. It’s a tough division already, and when they’ve added these pieces, it’s just going to be even tougher. And that’s fun for us. We embrace the competition, so we’re really excited about it. There will be some tough games, but you know if you’re coming out of there (the division), you have a chance to really be able to compete with anybody, so we’re really excited about it.”

Notable AFC West additions include: the Dever Broncos acquiring quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Randy Gregory, the Las Vegas Raiders added wide receiver Davante Adams and pass rusher Chandler Jones and the Los Angeles Chargers added linebacker Khalil Mack and cornerback J.C. Jackson.

All moves that make the division the Chiefs have won without much resistance over the last six years much more competitive.

While not receiving much praise from a national consensus, the Chiefs will have something to prove this year as they move forward without some key players that played a role in the team making two of the last three Super Bowls. Still, Humphrey’s words insinuate the club feels good about the direction the team is heading, and they have faith in the guys they have in the locker room.

Humphrey makes a good point, too; if the Chiefs do pick up their seventh straight division title over a much improved AFC West, it’ll only make them better once the postseason begins.

The Chiefs have reigned as the kings of the AFC West for the previous six seasons. While the division has drastically improved over the last few months, Creed Humphrey says Kansas City is up to the challenge.
