Chiefs WR Byron Pringle signs RFA tender

Hours away from the start of the 2021 NFL Draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle will remain on the team this season after signing his restricted free agent tender on Thursday afternoon.

On March 17, 2021, Pringle was extended an original-round restricted free agent tender, which is what he signed today. This meant that Pringle was allowed to sign on with another team, but the Chiefs would have the right to match any offer in order to retain him.

Last week, During a virtual conference call, Chiefs GM Brett Veach spoke highly of Pringle’s development: “We’re certainly extremely high on Byron Pringle, I think we all believe in him and the progress and the work that he’s put in. We are certainly hopeful for him,” he said.

Pringle originally joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State in 2018. Now at 27-years-old, Pringle has developed into an excellent depth piece and has the potential to take on a larger role in Kansas City’s offense. Despite the limited number of snaps from being in a group that rich with wide receiver talent, Pringle’s had some bright moments. Including a 102-yard touchdown return against Denver last season and his 103-yard game against the Indianapolis Colts two seasons ago.

Over the last two seasons, Pringle has 25 receptions for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns for his career so far.

Now with Sammy Watkins out of town, Pringle could be stepping into a larger role in 2021.
