Chiefs waive QB Jordan Ta’amu, release two others

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly released three players from its 90-man roster on Monday afternoon. Kansas City went over the 90-man limit after signing LB Kamalei Correa, DB Will Parks, and WR Chris Finke last Friday.

As expected, the Chiefs have made the appropriate number of roster cuts by releasing QB Jordan Ta’Amu, OL Bryan Witzmann, and TE Sean Culkin.

Ta’Amu, 23, originally signed with Kansas City in April of 2020 after turning some heads as the signal-caller in the XFL last spring. Since then, he’s been on the practice squad for Kansas City as the third-string QB behind Patrick Mahomes and backup Chad Henne until his release today.

Witzmann, 30, signed onto Kansas City’s practice squad in late October last season and appeared in one game, registering three special teams reps. He also played on the active roster for Kansas City from 2016-17, starting 13 games at left guard in 2017. Following the ‘17 campaign, Witzmann played with five teams over the next two seasons before returning to Kansas City in 2020.

Culkin, 27, signed a futures/reserve contract with the Chiefs shortly after Super Bowl 55. He had previously played with the Baltimore Ravens (2020) and the L.A. Chargers (2017-19). Notably, Culkin caught a little bit of limelight from the sports world by announcing his plan to convert his NFL salary into bitcoin, becoming the first player in the league to do such a thing.

All three of these players are free agents and are free to sign with any team.
