Chiefs waive former Michigan QB Shea Patterson

After bringing back veteran QB Matt Moore for his 12th season on a one-year contract, league sources told ESPN’s Field Yates, the Kansas City Chiefs have put former Michigan QB Shea Patterson on waivers on Friday afternoon.

The move drops Kansas City back to just four quarterbacks on the roster with former XFL quarterback Jordan Ta’Amu emerging as the team’s lone developmental project as the fourth-string QB.

According to OverTheCap, Patterson’s release frees up approximately $610k in cap space that’ll likely go towards paying Matt Moore’s contract, which was reportedly signed a few hours prior.

Patterson was initially picked up by the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 3, following this year’s draft. However, instead of competing with Ta’Amu for a spot on Kansas City’s depth chart, Patterson will be looking for another opportunity to play at the next level elsewhere.
