Chiefs waive Anthony Witherstone, sign two others

The Kansas City Chiefs made a few roster adjustments ahead of their final week of training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. Following the team’s 17th practice, head coach Andy Reid informed the media that the team welcomed two new members to camp.

The Chiefs signed linebacker Olakunle Fatukasi and cornerback Duron Lowe on Tuesday. The team made room for both players on the roster by placing tight end Jody Fortson on injury reserve and waiving cornerback Anthony Witherstone.

Witherstone exited Kansas City’s preseason game against the Saints early on Sunday after injuring his big toe. He was waived with an injury designation, meaning he’ll be added to the team’s injury reserve list should he clear waivers. Witherstone will likely be released with an injury settlement.

Olakunle Fatuk entered the NFL as an undrafted out of Rutkers a year ago, signing with the Tamba Bay Buccaneers on May 22, 2022. He made the Bucs’ initial 53-man roster and appeared in 13 games but was waived on December 13, 2022. He’d finish the season on the Denver Broncos practice squad.

On January 18, 2023, Fatukasi signed a futures/reserve contract with the New England Patriots and spent the off-season with the club before getting waived on August 12.

Duron Lowe signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free last season but failed to make the team’s 53-man roster. He agreed to a futures/reserve contract with the Buccaneers in January but was released from the team on Saturday.
