Chiefs vs. Jaguars: Andy Reid says ‘everyone will play’ in first preseason scrimmage

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped the week’s final practice ahead of the first of three preseason games. The team will travel to Jacksonville for an exhibition match against the Jaguars on Saturday with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. CDT.

Following Wednesday’s practice, head coach Andy Reid took to the podium and announced his lineup strategy.

“I’m going to play everybody,” Reid announced. “As far as the play time for this game, we’ll go the ones for [the first] quarter, twos for the second quarter, threes for the third quarter, and fours for the fourth quarter. We’ll just keep it at that.”

If you’ve followed an Andy Reid-led preseason, then this is what you’d expect. Reid’s strategy for exhibition games hasn’t changed much. In all likelihood, the Ones will play a series or two, before the Twos appear for the rest of the first half. The Threes play in the third and the rest of the depth chart will get playing time in the fourth.

Reid also took time to mention he’s eager to see his younger players perform on Saturday.

“All those young guys, I’d love to see how they compete. The higher the draft picks are going to be in there, the better the competition, so I want to see how they handle that. Kingsley [Suamataia] being one of them. He’ll be working there, and we’ll see how he does there. But I’m anticipating good things.”
