Chiefs to release DT Isaiah Buggs after consecutive offseason arrests

The Kansas City Chiefs have had enough of one of their backup defensive linemen this offseason, announcing his release this week. Journeyman defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was cut from the team following two arrests that occurred within the last few weeks in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The former Alabama standout was slapped with a domestic violence-burglary charge on June 16, which was only a few weeks after he was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty on May 29.

Kansas City signed Buggs to their practice squad last January and gave him a futures/reserve contract a month later to stay with the team for the offseason program. His last NFL game was Week 17 last season as a member of the Detroit Lions. He has never played in a game while with the Chiefs.

Buggs entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He played three seasons in the Steel City before signing with Detroit in 2022. In all, Buggs played five seasons in the NFL registering 89 tackles and two sacks in just 56 games.

The Chiefs were hoping Buggs would make strides towards being a contributor along their defensive line. Now, he never will.
