Chiefs to induct Tim Grunhard into team Hall of Fame

Through their official Twitter account, the Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that former center Tim Grunhard will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame later this year.

In an official statement, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt made the following statement:

“We are excited to welcome Tim as the newest member of our Chiefs Hall of Fame.” “In 11 seasons with the club, Tim was a stalwart on one of the most talented offensive line groups in franchise history. Known for his toughness and grit, Tim helped pave the way for Marty Schottenheimer’s physical running attack that was a staple of Chiefs football in the 1990s. Off the field, Tim showed a commitment to serving the community throughout his career, and his dedication to Kansas City has continued well after his playing days. We look forward to adding Tim’s name to the Ring of Honor at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this fall.”

Grunhard was a second-round draft pick from the 1990 NFL Draft and played 11 seasons in the NFL, all in a Chiefs uniform. The former Notre Dame grad was the anchor for Kansas City’s offensive line during the Marty Schottenheimer era and was part of what made those Chiefs teams of the 90’s a traditional playoff contender.

Grunhard, 52, played from 1990 to 2000 and missed only seven games. He appeared in 169 games and started 120 straight from September 5, 1993, through October 29, 2000, which is the fourth-longest streak in franchise history. In 1999, he made the Pro Bowl.

Following his retirement in 2001, Grunhard became fully invested in the community of Kansas City. In 2006, he became the head football coach at Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas (a suburb in Kansas City) until 2011.

In 2012, he served as the offensive line coach under Charley Weise at the University of Kansas for two seasons. Today, he’s currently back on the Bishop Miege High School’s football team as an OL coach. When he’s not coaching high school football, Grunhard hosts a local radio show, “The Daily Crunch,” and is an ambassador for the late Derrick Thomas’ Third and Long Foundation.
