Chiefs sign RB DeAndre Washington to a one-year contract

As the 2020 NFL Draft approaches, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to add to their roster, this time expanding their backfield with the addition of former Oakland Raiders running back DeAndre Washington per Yahoo! Sports Terez Paylor.

At 5-feet-8-inches and 210-pounds, Washington, 27, entered the NFL in 2016 as a 5th round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders.

In four seasons with the Raiders, 55 games (5 starts), Washington rushed for a combined 1,122 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns on 282 carries. In the passing game, he caught 88 passes for 613 yards and a single TD.

Washington played his college ball at Texas Tech and was a teammate of quarterback Patrick Mahomes for two seasons (2014-2015). When news broke of his former teammate signing a one-year deal with Kansas City, the Chiefs star passer was more than thrilled about the move.

In 2015, his final season with Mahomes, Washington rushed for 1,492 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Washington now joins a crowded backfield with Darrel Williams, Darwin Thompson, Elijah McGuire, Mike Weber and Marcus Marshall as the Chiefs look for solid depth behind starter Damien Williams.

Washington is the second roster acquisition the Chiefs made today. Earlier, they signed punter Tyler Newsome on a one-year contract as well.
