Chiefs sign linebacker Blake Lynch to practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the divisional round of the AFC playoffs when they begin their sprint toward making a third-consecutive trip to the Super Bowl and accomplishing the league’s first-ever three-peat season.

While the team continues to rest, the Chiefs’ front office announced a late-season roster via their official X account.

On Monday afternoon, Kansas City added some extra depth to their linebacking core by adding veteran Blake Lynch to the practice squad. Additionally, the Chiefs say they’ve terminated the practice squad contract of wide receiver Montrell Washington.

Washington is now a free agent and is allowed to sign with any team.

Lynch began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. His most productive season came the following season when he finished the 2021 campaign with 35 tackles, two sacks, and an interception. He was cut from the Vikings the following offseason.

Since then, Lynch has bounced around the league, signing with the practice squads of the Arizona Cardinals (2022-23), Los Angeles Chargers (2023, 24), Seattle Seahawks (August 2024), and Las Vegas Raiders (October 2024). Kansas City will be the fourth team he’s joined this season.

The addition of Lynch is surprising, but the Chiefs may feel he holds more value as a depth piece than Washington did on special teams.
