Chiefs sign former Bears WR Dazz Newsome to practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs added another member to the practice squad on Monday.

After losing wide receivers Chris Conley and Daurice Fountain, the Chiefs signed former Chicago Bear Dazz Newsome, per Tom Pelissero. Conely was poached off of KC’s practice squad last week by the Tenessee Titans, who play the Chiefs in Week 8. While Fountain was granted his release from the team and wound up signing with Chicago’s practice team, strangely making the move a swap of sorts.

Newsome is the third receiver Kansas City has added this month and the second coming from Chicago. The Chiefs recently added Kadarius Toney via trade with the New York Giants and signed former Bears receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

From the University of North Carolina, Newsome is a former 2021 sixth-round pick by the Bears. Most of his rookie campaign was spent on Chicago’s practice squad after spending a large chunk of the offseason with a fractured collar bone. However, he did appear in three games during his rookie campaign, catching two passes for 23 yards and fielding six punt returns for 75 yards.

Newsome failed to make the Bears’ 53-man roster this past summer and has since worked out with a few teams but coming to Kansas City is his first real opportunity since leaving Chicago.
