Chiefs sign 15 players to practice squad for 2021

Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have established their 53-man roster for the start of the 2021 regular season, the next step is to create the practice squad for the upcoming year. Due to COVID-19, the National Football League has extended its special rule from 2020 to allow teams to sign up to 16 players including six veterans, regardless of experience, who will be allowed to participate during practice through the regular season.

Teams are also allowed to elevate their practice squad players to their roster for individual games or activate them to the active roster altogether at any point during the regular season.

On Wednesday, Kansas City has signed the following 15 players to their practice squad:

  • DE Demone Harris
  • DL Austin Edwards
  • S Devon Key
  • S Zayne Anderson
  • LB Omari Cobb
  • C Darryl Williams
  • WR Cornell Powell
  • LB Christian Rozeboom
  • QB Shane Buechele
  • DT Cortez Broughton
  • DT Benito Jones
  • WR Maurice Ffrench
  • CB Shakur Brown
  • CB DiCaprio Bootle
  • WR Gehrig Dieter

Eleven members on the practice squad are players the Chiefs waived on Tuesday, during final cuts, and have been brought back.

The other four are players Kansas City has signed through the waiver wire:

  • Linebacker Christian Rozeboom was signed by Kansas City after being released from the L.A. Rams.
  • Defensive tackle Cortez Broughton was picked up by Kansas City after being released from the L.A. Chargers.
  • Defensive tackle Benito Jones signed with the Chiefs after spending time with the Miami Dolphins.
  • Cornerback Shakur Brown signed with the Chiefs after failed to make the Pittsburgh Steelers final roster.

UPDATE: RB Derrick Gore fills the 16th spot on the practice squad.
