Chiefs release LB Kamalei Correa

Per the NFL’s official transactions report, the Kansas City Chiefs have released linebacker Kamalei Correa on Thursday afternoon.

Correa, 27, originally signed with the Chiefs back on May 5, but is back on the street since his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars back in February. From the outside, it appears the team evaluated Correa enough over the past month and decided he wasn’t a good fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

It’s also possible a player currently on the street that the Chiefs want to take a look at and need the space on the 90-man roster. After releasing Correa, the Chiefs roster currently lists 89 players.

Correa first entered the league in 2016 with the Baltimore Ravens as the 42nd overall pick out of Boise State. Over the following five seasons of his career, Correa spent time with the Ravens, Titans, and Jaguars, before signing with Kansas City earlier this spring.

Correa is now a free agent looking to join his fifth NFL team in six years.
