Chiefs release Kicker Matt Ammendola

Kicker Matt Ammendola spent his final days in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform on Monday after his release from the team.

Following a terrible outing against Indianapolis in Week 3, the Chiefs have reportedly released the journeyman, per ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates.

Ammendola was signed to Kansas City’s practice squad on September 12 to sub for starter Harrison Butker, who’s been sidelined the last two games due to a hurt ankle.

Ammendola was perfect in his Chiefs debut last Thursday night against the Las Angeles Chargers, going 2 for 2 on field goals and 3 for 3 on PATs. Sunday, however, was a completely different performance.

Kansas City lined up to kick three total times yesterday, scoring 3 out of 7 possible points, which would’ve been enough to win despite the poor performance on offense and defense.

Ammendola finished Week 3, going 0 for 1 on an extra point attempt and was 1 for 2 on field goals. He finishes his short stint with the Chiefs going 3 for 4 on PATs and field goals.

Ammendola’s release hopefully means Harrison Butker will finally make his return in Week 4 when Kansas City tries to rebound against Tampa Bay. Because lord knows, the Chiefs need him back urgently.
