Chiefs re-sign FB Michael Burton to a one-year contract

Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with one of their in-house free agents on Monday evening. League Sources told NFL reporter Aaron Wilson fullback Michael Burton will be returning to the Chiefs on a one-year contract, terms of the deal have not been released.

Burton, 29, came to Kansas City in 2021 as a free agent to fill in for veteran Anthony Sherman, who had retired from football last offseason. The seven-year fullback did well for the Chiefs, paving the way for runners Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel Williams, Jerick McKinnon, and Derrick Gore.

Burton also showed he can quite the ball carrier himself, rushing for 26 yards and a touchdown on just eight rushing attempts.

Burton first entered the league in 2015 with the Detroit Lions (2015-2016) and spent time with the Chicago Bears (2017-2018), Washington (2019), and the New Orleans Saints (2020) before signing with Kansas City.

Now that the fullback position is in order, Veach can turn his attention to more glaring needs on the depth chart.
