Chiefs’ Rashee Rice responds to legal issues at Training Camp

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the 2024 NFL season with one of the fastest receiving cores the franchise has had in the last few years. One of those speedy pass-catchers is second-year WR Rashee Rice, whose eligibility to play remains up in the air after a troubled off-season.

Back in April, authorities charged Rice with eight felony counts after he caused a high-speed, multi-car crash on a Dallas expressway. He was also a suspect in an alleged assault at a Dallas nightclub the following month. The reporting party reportedly signed an affidavit of non-prosecution in the nightclub incident.

After Tuesday’s practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Rice spoke about his legal errors, but couldn’t give much of an update.

“Well, honestly, it’s still a legal process, and my team is handling that,” he said.

What Rice could report was how he’s handled moving forward as he and his teammates prepare for the start of the NFL pre-season with their first scrimmage against Jacksonville coming up on Saturday.

“It’s very important [to be at training camp] just because I get to be out here and still be a part of my team, and we get to dominate and focus on our goal this year,” Rice explained.

The Chiefs have a lot riding on this season with a chance to accomplish something no team’s done before in winning three Lombardi trophies in a row. Rice knows one way he can help his team off the field is to prevent from being a distraction.

During his comments, the former SMU standout told reporters one thing he’s been doing to keep himself out of trouble.

“Continue to surround myself with people that I want to be like and with people who [will] allow me to grow. You know that things come with growth, and I’m [going to] continue to grow.”

Rice was a rookie sensation for Kansas City last season finishing with 79 receptions for 938 yards and 7 touchdowns.
