Chiefs put L’Jarius Sneed on IR, sign Harris

The Kansas City Chiefs announced some roster moves on Wednesday night regarding rookie cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who left early on Monday Night Football with a shoulder injury.

Sneed suffered a broken collarbone in Kansas City’s Week 3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The team officially announced on their official Twitter page the 23-year-old will be on injured reserve, halting his 2020 campaign.

A super unfortunate turn of events for Sneed, who was having an incredible start to the 2020 season. The fourth-round pick from Louisiana Tech led the NFL in interceptions through two weeks, with 9 tackles, 3 passes deflected, and a 58.8 completion percentage allowed, before getting hurt.

Sneed will likely be out for at least six weeks for his collarbone to heal properly. Meaning, the Chiefs’ defensive backs room will be even thinner going into Week 4. Antonio Hamilton and rookie BoPete Keyes will probably see more playing time behind starters Charvarius Ward and Rashad Fenton.

However, league rules for the 2020 season only will allow teams to return an unlimited number of players from the injured reserve list. So, theoretically, Sneed could return to the Chiefs as soon as Week 10 if the team decides to bring him back.

Replacing Sneed on the 53-man roster for the time being, is linebacker Darius Harris, who was activated off of the team’s practice squad.

According to Craig Stout of Arrowhead Pride, Harris is considered to be a fluid mover with good flexibility and could play a significant role on special teams and on dime defensive sets.

Harris also has the skill set to be utilized in blitzing schemes and has the ability to come off the edge quickly.

Kansas City (3-0) will welcome the New England Patriots (2-1) on Sunday for Week 4 and will be dependent on their thin group of defensive backs to keep quarterback Cam Newton from connecting with receivers Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry.
