Chiefs lose five to injury in defeat vs Steelers

The Kansas City Chiefs lost five of their own in last night’s 17-7 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Andy Reid spoke with the media after the game to shed light on the situation.

The team (and their fans) got quite a scare last night watching all-pro safety Tyann Mathieu and second-year player Breeland Speaks both leave the game due to injury.

“Tyrann Mathieu hurt his shoulder, but he should be okay,” said Reid.

Backup defensive tackle Justin Hamilton suffered a minor injury that caused him to leave the game.

“[Breeland] Speaks and [Justin] Hamilton should be okay, he had a knee sprain and a hyperextension so we could be okay with that,” explained Reid.

Wide receiver and NFL hopeful Marcus Kemp sustained an injury to his knee on Saturday night after making a nice over the middle to convert a third and long. Coach Reid explained that as of now, it’s ruled a knee sprain, but the team will know more after he undergoes a MIR.

“That one looks like it’s the most serious of the bunch, I mean he’s been playing so well. I feel bad for him. He’s a great kid, tough kid. They’re taking these hits away from the upper body, so the defensive backs are going at the legs, so you’re going to come up with things like this by rule.” Reid said.

Kemp’s injury is super unfortunate considering how much he stood out during training camp and it looked like his chances of making the final 53 would be high with a strong preseason.

Per Brook Pryor of the Kansas City Star, tight end Deon Yelder was seen with crutches while walking in a boot after the game.

“[Deon] Yelder has an ankle we will see how bad that is as we go through the night and into tomorrow,” explained Reid.
