It’s a sports condition many fans across the National Football League are suffering from. As the Kansas City Chiefs continue their reign of dominance through the league, appearing in their fifth Super Bowl in seven years, many persons outside of Chiefs Kingdom are suffering from a worsening condition called “Chiefs fatigue”.
Fans got a heavy dose of the condition after Kansas City out-dueled the Buffalo Bills last week in the AFC Championship, winning their 17th possession game, which extends an all-time NFL record. The Chiefs are now preparing for Super Bowl 59, where they will battle the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch from Super Bowl 57.
In a press conference, head coach Andy Reid was asked about his thoughts on people getting tired of his team winning so much. His response was exactly what Chiefs fans wanted to hear.
“Yeah, I don’t care,” the head coach confirmed. “Honestly, I don’t get into that; I don’t use that with the guys. I just want to make sure we get prepped,” he explained.
“As coaches, our responsibility is to give them everything we can give them to be even greater than they already are and then make sure we’re digging in on plays to help them with that. Then, for them to focus in on learning it and keeping themselves physically fit and mentally fit to go play. There’s enough to do just with that where you don’t even have to pay attention to the other stuff.”

The Chiefs finished the regular season with a 15-2 record before sending the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills home during the postseason. Almost every game ended with NFL fans in a frenzy over how the Chiefs secured a victory. Many blamed the referees for “bailing” Kansas City out of unfavorable situations. Reid argues that calls from the refs usually balance out both ways, and the players are the ones that settle it on the field.
“I mean, I think [with the refs], everything balances out,” Reid said. “You have a human element there with the officials. These guys are trying to do the best job they possibly can out there. They take a lot of heat one way or the other. Coaches take a lot of heat one way or the other. I don’t pay much attention to it.”
The excuses fans suffering Chiefs fatigue give aren’t much different from what used to be said about New England during the Patriots’ nearly twenty-year reign in the league with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. The hater’s last hope of preventing the Chiefs from completing their 3-peat campaign is the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, Reid is 4-1 against his former team, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is 8-0 against Eagles DC Vic Fangio as a defensive coordinator and head coach with 1,866 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and just two picks.
