Chiefs HC Andy Reid defends Skyy Moore’s drop in the end zone

Kansas City Chiefs second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore is getting an ear full from critics this week following his team’s disappointing 24-9 loss to Denver on Sunday. The Chiefs’ offense looked lethargic and once again struggled in the red zone against the Broncos’ much-improved defense.

Kansas City settled for three field goals in the first half, but Moore had an opportunity to help the Chiefs surmount a possible comeback but let it slip away.

On a 4th-and-two from the Denver 27-yard line, with 7:20 in the fourth quarter, Mahomes floated a deep pass for Moore in the end zone that would’ve cut their deficit to five points. Instead, Moore couldn’t track the ball while it was in the air, and the pass fell incomplete, turning the ball over Denver on downs.

Since then, Moore – and the rest of the Chiefs’ wide receiver room – have been under fire as fans grow impatient with waiting for this group to begin meeting expectations.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid defended Moore during his Monday Zoom press conference and suggested he may have been interfered with during the play.

“Skyy Moore’s going to take heat for dropping the ball. Well, when you look at it on tape, you see that his inside arm was dragged down away from the ball,” Reid explained. “Listen, the officials are human. They do a good job. It’s just sometimes, it’s hard to see everything. That’s a tough deal by angles and all of that. I would tell you a majority of the time, they do a good job with all that.”

Whether he was interfered with or not, Kansas City’s receiving core has struggled a ton this season, and dropping the ball is one of their bad habits – they currently lead the league in that category – that has occurred since the 2023 campaign began.

While they can always turn things around in the second half of the regular season, the WR room still appears to be this team’s weakest link and could be their downfall come playoff time.
