Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on Rashee Rice’s progression

From a national perspective, the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver room still appears one of the weakest positions on the roster. Many critics still believe the team needs a veteran option but head coach Andy Reid and his staff see the daily progression the pundits don’t.

Earlier this week, Reid took to the podium to talk about one of the Chiefs’ young pass catchers – rookie Rashee Rice.

“Yeah, I mean, he’s growing again in front of us here,” Reid told reporters on Wednesday. “He’s one of the young guys. But it looks like he’s getting more on the same page with [Patrick Mahomes]. Pat spends a lot of time with him. He’s got the right attitude. He wants to be good. And so it’s consistency. So he’d had a nice game, he’s coming off a nice game and now presented again, and take another step. This week. That’s the attitude you got to have, and he seems to have that.”

Rice received a lot of hype for how his skill set would pair well with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City’s offense after the team drafted him in the second round of this year’s draft.

Despite a bumping start to the season, Week 3 was a real breakthrough for the rookie WR, who continues integrating himself into the playbook. Rice finished with five catches for 59 yards in Kansas City’s 41-10 victory over Chicago last Sunday.

As for the whole WR group, Reid has monitored the trajectory of his receiving core over the last few months since training camp began and is pleased with how they’ve progressed so far. Five WRs combined for 13 catches for 189 yards against the Bears.

This week will serve as another test when they go head-to-head against the New York Jets’ stingy pass defense on Sunday Night Football.
